FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How converting.net handles your files.

Do my files really never leave my device?
Yes. The conversion engines (ImageMagick, FFmpeg, LibreOffice, Pandoc, pdf.js and others, compiled to WebAssembly) run inside your browser. Your files are read and written locally; our server only delivers the website and the engines.
Why does the first conversion take longer?
The engine for a file type is downloaded the first time you need it – for office documents that is LibreOffice, about 77 MB. Your browser keeps it, so later conversions start right away.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no upload limit, because nothing is uploaded. How large a file can be depends on your device's memory; very large videos can take a while, since everything runs on your own computer.
Can I edit password-protected PDFs?
Yes, after removing the password with "Unlock PDF" – you need to know the password, of course. "Protect PDF" adds a password (AES-256) again.
