Why AVI should become MP4
AVI is a video format from the 1990s, still found on old camcorders, digital cameras and in video collections. AVI files often use outdated codecs that phones, tablets, smart TVs and websites can’t play. MP4 with modern compression plays practically everywhere and is usually noticeably smaller at the same quality.
What to expect
Video and audio are re-encoded to MP4. The quality is limited by the original – an old low-resolution video won’t become sharper. In many cases the file gets smaller thanks to more efficient compression. Long videos take a while, especially on slower computers or phones.
How to convert
Drop the AVI above, MP4 is preselected, click “Convert” and download. FFmpeg runs on your own device inside the browser – your family videos stay private.
