About WMV
WMV (Windows Media Video) is an older Microsoft format, common with old Windows Movie Maker projects, camcorders and archives. Macs, iPhones, Android devices and many TVs can’t play WMV without extra software. MP4 plays natively almost everywhere, making it the best format for keeping old videos usable.
What to expect
Video and audio are re-encoded to MP4. The image quality matches the original as closely as possible but can’t improve on it – old low-resolution WMVs stay low-resolution. The MP4 is often similar in size or smaller. DRM-protected WMV files can’t be converted.
How to convert
Drop the WMV file above, MP4 is preselected, click “Convert” and download. FFmpeg converts on your device in the browser, with no upload.
