What is HEIC and why convert it?
HEIC is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos by default. It stores images with modern HEVC compression, so files are roughly half the size of a comparable JPG. The catch: many Windows programs, older Android phones, online forms and photo printing services still can’t open HEIC. JPG, on the other hand, works practically everywhere, which makes it the safe choice for sharing, emailing or uploading.
What changes when you convert
JPG uses older compression, so your converted file will usually be somewhat larger than the HEIC original while looking practically the same. HEIC can hold extras like Live Photo motion, depth maps or several images in one file; a JPG keeps only the still image. Very high-dynamic-range details may look a little flatter, since JPG stores 8 bits per color channel.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
Choose or drop your HEIC file above – JPG is already selected. Click “Convert” and download the result. The conversion runs with ImageMagick on your own device, so nothing is uploaded and even private photos stay private. The first time, your browser loads the conversion engine (a few MB); after that it starts instantly.
