Why MP4 beats GIF

Animated GIFs are surprisingly large because the format is decades old and compresses poorly. The same animation as MP4 is often many times smaller and shows more colors. Many platforms, including Instagram and some messengers, don’t accept GIF uploads or convert them anyway. MP4 plays on every device.

Good to know

The MP4 plays the animation once like a normal video; whether it loops depends on the player or platform. The result has no sound, as GIFs have none. Transparency in a GIF isn’t supported by MP4 and gets a solid background. Very small or oddly sized GIFs may be adjusted slightly in size for video compatibility.

How to convert

Drop your GIF above, MP4 is preselected, click “Convert” and download. FFmpeg runs right in your browser – no upload.
