When PNG makes sense
JPG loses a bit of quality each time it’s edited and saved again. Converting to PNG once lets you keep editing without adding new compression artifacts. Some programs, game engines, icon tools and websites also simply require PNG. PNG is supported in every browser and image editor.
What converting can’t do
Converting doesn’t improve quality: artifacts already in the JPG remain in the PNG. The file also usually gets larger, because PNG stores every pixel losslessly. And the background won’t magically become transparent – the PNG supports transparency, but the white background of your JPG stays white until you remove it in an editor.
Convert in three steps
Choose or drop the JPG above, PNG is already selected. Click “Convert” and download the PNG. Everything runs on your own device with ImageMagick, so private pictures aren’t uploaded anywhere.
