About TIFF

TIFF is a professional format used by scanners, print shops, photographers and archives. It’s usually stored uncompressed or losslessly, which preserves every detail but creates huge files – often tens of megabytes per image. Browsers can’t display TIFF, and many websites and email services won’t accept it. JPG shrinks such files dramatically and opens everywhere.

What changes

JPG is lossy, but for viewing and sharing the difference is rarely noticeable. Multi-page TIFFs (common with fax or document scans) and layers aren’t kept in a single JPG. 16-bit color depth is reduced to 8 bits, and transparency is filled in. Keep the TIFF as your archive copy if you need maximum quality for printing.

Convert step by step

Choose or drop your TIFF above, JPG is preselected. Click “Convert” and download. ImageMagick handles the conversion on your device – no upload, so even large scans don’t need to travel through the internet.
